Specifications include, but are not limited to: • Building a new Auxiliary Sewer to receive wet weather flows and bypass the flows around the Lower Alemany area; • Connecting to the existing Alemany Sewer in Alemany Boulevard to divert flows into a new diversion chamber. The existing sewer will be structurally reinforced to allow the creation of opening in the center and south walls to divert and equalize wet weather flows in the existing sewer and into the new auxiliary sewer; • Building a diversion chamber to take the diverted flow into the new auxiliary sewer; • Building a new Alemany Shaft to serve as a receiving shaft for the tunnel construction and then as a drop shaft to get the flows into the tunnel; • Building a series of shafts up to 45-foot diameter to depth of 90 feet in soil and rock along the tunnel for launching, receiving, and venting the tunnel; • Constructing a minimum 10-foot ID tunnel from Alemany Boulevard to Boutwell Street by supporting the ground with precast segmental tunnel lining or jacking pipe; • Constructing a single 7-foot high by 13-foot wide box sewer by cut-and-cover methods along Boutwell Street and Industrial Street; • Building a new downstream structure by rebuilding portions of the existing Barneveld-Industrial Connection Structure (BICS) located in Industrial Street to receive and blend wet weather flows into the existing sewer system; • Constructing six vent shafts – three new ones directly over the tunnel and three within the construction shafts with associated air ducts and at grade/above grade vent structures; • Reinforcing the existing roof slab of the BICS with carbon fiber; • Relocating existing utilities for the shaft and box sewer construction; • Relocating the Emergency Firefighting Water System (EFWS) along the south side of Industrial Street to the north side of Industrial Street; • Repaving streets disturbed by the construction; • Replacing street lights removed for construction; and • Upgrading and replacing access ramps, curbs, and gutters affected by the other work.
