Riverside County Department of Waste Resource employees deploy tarps over the active landfill working face at the end of each working day as a form of alternate daily cover (ADC). Use of tarps as ADC is required to meet the requirements in the California Code of Regulations Title 27 section 20690 to help control odors, blowing of litter and to keep out wildlife. Therefore, the design of the tarps must be large enough to cover the active working face and strong enough to resist tension from constant pulling and friction from deployment over municipal solid waste. Specifications that meet these requirements are contained below in the Landfill Tarp Manufacturing Specifications. Due to constant use in a rough environment, the tarps begin to disintegrate from constant use and replacements are required.
