The contracted CBO(s) will provide feedback on the City’s existing outreach materials, and then host educational outreach events with the themes of food waste prevention and waste reduction in the City’s target languages (English, Spanish, Tagalog, or Khmer). The contract activities should emphasize direct, in-person, customized outreach designed to create long-lasting behavior change. CBOs must identify in their application which target language(s) they propose to provide services to and should only apply to provide services to the language(s) with which they have language fluency and community connection. All contract activities should incorporate outreach materials and strategies tailored for the target languages that resonate, are culturally appropriate, and are respectful of their communities’ existing practices. CBOs may apply with subcontractors identified that can serve additional target languages or meet additional contract needs. Multiple contracts may be awarded in order to serve all four target languages. See Section 4.2 Proposal Content for guidance on building a budget for the proposed services. Contract Deliverables: • Review and provide feedback on outreach materials provided by the City. o The contracted CBO(s) will first conduct a review and provide recommendations for updates on select outreach materials (estimated at 20 on-page flyers) the City provides. The purpose of the review is to help ensure the materials are translated accurately, culturally appropriate, resonate, and are respectful of their communities’ existing knowledge. To meet the EPA grant’s timeline, the outreach material review must be the first contract activity prioritized and ideally should be completed within the first two months of the contract. The City will use this community feedback to help inform current and future outreach materials and strategies moving forward. o The CBO(s) will be asked to create a list of common solid waste and recycling terms translated into their target language(s). The City will provide the list of terms to translate. The City will use this list to better translate future outreach materials. o The CBO may also be asked to support a community meeting or in-depth discussion in their target language for additional feedback from Long Beach residents.
