Cut all limbs from logs so that burn piles will get stacked tightly. Pre-existing downed woody materials: Cut at least 80% of existing woody debris, that is already on the ground, into pieces 6 feet long or less. This will create more activity fuels with cut ends (to be stacked into burn piles). Pre-existing woody debris that does not get cut and piled (20% of existing woody debris maximum across the project) should be the woody debris that is more difficult to handle (such as rotten pieces, short pieces or sticks/twigs), and all logs greater than 20 inches diameter...
