Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of San José (“City”) on behalf of its Police Department (“Department” or “SJPD”), invites the submission of proposal from firms with expertise and experience in Canine Primary Care Veterinary Services and/or Canine Specialty Veterinary Services. The canine detail of the various division(s) and unit(s) includes, but is not limit to, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Belgian Malinois, Bloodhounds, Labrador Retrievers, and all other canines deemed appropriate for the various services required by the Department. The Consultant agrees to be available during regular business hours Monday through Friday and have a veterinarian on call for consultation after hours. The City will call in advance if possible for veterinary services. ● The Consultant agrees to maintain a fully equipped office and be capable of handling aggressive canines, particularly those that may require boarding for any type of extended treatment. ● The Consultant shall be skilled in all phases of conventional treatment pertaining to large working canines with a preferred minimum of five (5) years of experience in this field. Working canines are defined as canines that are not pets but are trained to perform and assist their human companions, and include police, detection and seizure, hearing and guide service, psychiatric service, mobility service and autism service canines. ● If required, the Consultant agrees to provide referrals to any type of specialist necessary, if treatment is beyond the scope of his/her services and will arrange for such services. The department will provide immediate notification of independently sought consultation. ● The Consultant agrees to arrange for any emergency (life or death) treatment outside the scope of this contract that may be required at authorized emergency animal clinics. ● The Consultant agrees to remain in compliance with equipment, handling, and boarding requirements and shall allow inspection of facilities and equipment by Canine supervisors and/or trainers; acceptance of services is subject to their approval. ● Provide, as requested by the Department or Police Chief, auditable records pertinent to this Contract
