As scientists and journalists, we want to interrogate the promises and, just as important, the pitfalls of this new psychedelic era. We want this podcast to be as engaging to someone who has never taken a psychedelic as it is to someone who’s been dropping acid since the 1960s. This new, so-called psychedelic renaissance has been led mostly by white, male scientists and journalists - but the story is much bigger than the one they’ve told us thus far. The podcast will broaden the conversation about the history and future of psychedelics to include other perspectives, including Indigenous ones. We’re looking for a production partner to build a team of innovative, enthusiastic audio storytellers and producers who can dig into the many possible stories in this space, some of which we will outline later in the application process, and come up with a vision for a first season of a podcast about psychedelics. Perhaps that’s a tighter narrative around a particular group of people taking psychedelics, such as cancer patients or veterans. Or maybe it is a mix of host interviews and more produced segments. We want to hear your pitch for the most compelling podcast season on psychedelics you can come up with. What does it sound like? Who do we hear? What is the container or theme or story that makes it a season? We want the podcast to have narrative storytelling in its DNA; even phone tape and studio interviews should be shaped in narrative ways.
