To achieve the habitat goals described above, cattle are preferred; however, horses may be an acceptable substitute. The grazing prescription for the Premises: • graze to a level that will leave 600 to 800 pounds per acre Residual Dry Matter (RDM) in uplands as measured in September or October (Bartolome et al. 2002). Grazing Capacity and Stocking Rate: Maximum Animal Unit Months (AUM’s) have been estimated at 35 AUM’s for the Swift property, 55 AUM’s for the Davis property, 58 AUM’s for the Engel property, and 125 AUM’s for the Christina property total 273 AUM’s. Therefore the grazing allotment’s stocking rates for the eight month grazing season are as follows: • Swift property: 5-7 Animal Units (AU’s) • Davis property: 9-11 AU’s • Engel property: 10-12 AU’s • Christina property: 22-25 AU’s
