Specifications include, but are not limited to: a. Stand 18 – Current BA = 97 ft2 /acre; Target BA = 60 ft2 /acre (2.7 acres north of red line) Cut or girdle poles sized (5-12” dbh) and sawlog sized (greater than or equal to 12”) Target red/black oaks with suppressed form. Species other than listed may also be cut if they are UGS. The purpose of this treatment is to provide optimal growing space for the best trees in the stand while increasing light levels to the understory by meeting the target basal area/acre objective. b. Stand 26 – Current BA = 114 ft2 /acre; Target BA = 70 ft2 /acre (26.7 acres) Stand is mostly white oak at the pole/small sawtimber size break. Cut or girdle old poles that are slower growing, sized (5-12” dbh) and sawlog sized (greater than or equal to 12”) that are UGS and or culls. Species other than listed may also be cut if they are UGS. The purpose of this treatment is to provide optimal growing space for the best white oak in the stand to increase in maturity while increasing light levels to the understory by meeting the target basal area/acre objective. c. Stand 27 – Current BA= 110 ft2 /acre; Target BA = 70 ft2 /acre (11.6 acres) Cut or girdle poles sized (5-12” dbh) and sawlog sized (greater than or equal to 12”) hickory, white oak, black oak, and red oak that are UGS and or culls. Species other than listed may also be cut if they are UGS. The purpose of this treatment is to provide optimal growing space for the best trees in the stand while increasing light levels to the understory by meeting the target basal area/acre objective. d. Stand 30 – Current BA= 140 ft2 /acre; Target BA = 70 ft2 /acre (10.3 acres) Favor the good quality poles (4-8” dbh) to make them the future stand. Cut or girdle poles sized (5-12” dbh) and sawlog sized (greater than or equal to 12”) hickory, white oak, black oak, and red oak that are UGS and or culls. Species other than listed may also be cut if they are UGS. The purpose of this treatment is to provide optimal growing space for the best trees in the stand while increasing light levels to the understory by meeting the target basal area/acre objective. e. Stand 36 – Current BA= 93 ft2 /acre; Target BA = 70 ft2 /acre (5.6 acres) Cut poles sized (5-12” dbh) that are UGS and girdle all large culls to reach B-level. Stand will likely be clearcut harvested in the future, so do not just focus on the UGS poles and saplings. The purpose of this treatment is to promote advance oak regeneration before harvest. f. Stand 46 – Current BA= 103 ft2 /acre; Target BA = 50 ft2 /acre (9.4 acres) Cut or girdle poles sized (5-12” dbh) and sawlog sized (greater than or equal to 12”) hickory, white oak, black oak, and red oak that are UGS and or culls. The goal is for this stand to be a transition from the field upslope down to the woods.
