General Fuels Reduction Prescription: Contractor will prune and cut trees and brush less than 6" DBH leaving residuals in an approximate 15'X15' spacing or greater favoring the retention of species listed below. Limb residual conifers and hardwoods to shoulder height. Pile all slash from thinning as well as pre-existing natural and logging activty fuels on the ground up to 8" diameter. Units have been previously treated with Mechanical Harvest, all slash from Mechanical thin will need to be cut and piled up to 8" diameter. Covering all piles with two sheets of kraft wax paper, wax up. Thinning Prescription for units: 2145, 2105, 2101, 2131, 2132, 2116, 2117, 2124, 2127, 2128, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113, 2114 Cut ALL Douglas Fir 6" DBH and under Cut Live Oak 4" DBH and under 15'X15' spacing Cut Tan Oak 4" DBH and under 15'X15' spacing In areas of blowdown from logging or storm damage; Cutters shall limb whole tree, cut up to 8" DBH. Lay remaining bole of tree completely on the ground if safe to do so. Pile limbs and bole of tree under 8" diameter Slash piles generated from logging; Cutters shall cut and pile all fuels. Boles of trees 8" and up to 18" diameter shall be bucked into 6' lengths and scattered from any large diameter trees. Piles can be made ontop of these slash generated piles. Ensure they meet the piling requirements listed below Hardwoods, brush and conifers stump height no more than 4 inches from the ground as measured on the uphill side. Stumps shall not be cut at an acute angle Cutters will limb all trees to shoulder height. All live limbs shall be completely severed from the remaining stump/bole of tree. Limbing will be performed in such a way that no damage to bole of limbed trees will occur Trees with the most desirable characteristics should be retained, i.e. healthy, full crowns, and disease free Thinning Prescription for units: 2139, 2140 Cutters should abide by the following species preference in this order; White Oak, Black Oak, Yew, Sugar Pine, Dogwood, Manzanita, Cedar, Maple, Madrone, Chinquapin, Live Oak, Bay (Pepperwood), Tan Oak, Ponderosa Pine, then Douglas Fir Cut conifers, hardwoods and brush no greater than 6" DBH leaving residuals in an approximate 15'X15' spacing No cutting of Black Oak, White Oak, Yew, Sugar Pine, Dogwood, and Manzanita shall occur Hardwoods, brush and conifers stump height no more than 4 inches from the ground as measured on the uphill side. Stumps shall not be cut at an acute angle Cutters will limb all trees to shoulder height. All live limbs shall be completely severed from the remaining stump/bole of tree. Limbing will be performed in such a way that no damage to bole of limbed trees will occur On hardwoods such as tan oak, chinquapin, madrone, and maple where there are multiple stump sprouts, thin down to the healthiest largest three sprouts per clump Trees with the most desirable characteristics should be retained, i.e. healthy, full crowns, and disease free Piling: Slash shall be bucked into 6' lengths or less and piles shall be at a minimum 5'L x 5'W x 5'H with a maximum of 8'L x 8'W x 6 'HExcept for leave logs, all slash will be placed in manageable tight compact piles for burning Pre-existing natural fuels and logging slash on the ground must be cut and piled up to 8" DBH No piles will be placed in the roadway. Enough room should be made for a logging truck to pass through Leave dead and down logs greater than 8” diameter on the larger end and buck to approximately 6 ft in length (leave logs). Spread out away from any key tree species To minimize scorch, all piles should be built atleast 15' away from large diameter trees and snags Piles shall be covered with two 6' long pieces of 75/85 heavy duty wax paper, wax up. The covering should come down at least half the height of the pile and ensure that material is piled on top to prevent the craft paper from being blown off. Paper should be placed at least ¾ of the height of the pile Piles shall not be built on stumps or big down logs No limbs and branches shall be left sticking out beyond the main body of the piles No piles shall be made within 25 feet of riparian areas with running water
