Specifications include, but are not limited to: The mission of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative (AAIMM) Doula Program is to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes for Black pregnant people by providing culturally congruent in-home support to reduce perinatal stress and ensure unbiased, optimal care and treatment during delivery. This program fills several gaps in existing home visiting programs: (1) culturally aligned care for Black families in order to increase lagging Black participation in other models; (2) support during active labor and delivery; and (3) career advancement and workforce development for African Americans in an expanding home visiting field
