New Fixed-Route Transit Service: The primary goal of this project is to proactively plan for a new sustainable fixed-route transit service that will support the planned future and rapid growth of the City of Folsom (especially South of Highway 50) and enhance access to health services within the City. This involves creating sustainable transit links to major medical facilities, such as UC Davis, Dignity Health, Kaiser Permanente, and Sutter Health, which will lower greenhouse gas emissions, relieve existing traffic congestion on Highway 50 and local roads, and provide an alternative regional transportation mode, improving access to jobs, services, and new healthcare facilities. Funding and Partnerships: In addition to planning new routes and bus stops/stations, another crucial goal of the project is to secure external funding from major employers along the new route, which will help offset both capital and operating costs. A stakeholder multi-party cost-sharing agreement (or similar arrangement) will be developed to finance the annual operating costs and fleet acquisition. Importantly, several healthcare providers have already expressed interest in the project, and SacRT has successfully collaborated with UC Davis Health on similar initiatives such as SacRT’s Bus Route 137, which takes employees and patients from Elk Grove to the UC Davis Medical Center. Increase Transit Ridership: The project aims to boost transit ridership and active transportation by enhancing connections to transit and promoting bus stops that are accessible to all ages and abilities. By aligning with the City of Folsom’s Active Transportation Plan and General Plan, this initiative aims to improve transit coverage, support higher-density affordable housing, promote mixed-use development, and provide better access to jobs, health services, and other essential amenities.
