The County of San Mateo, through its Surplus Property Program, manages a large inventory of modular furniture and ergonomic equipment—primarily including systems manufactured by Pleion, Teknion, and Steelcase—that has been designated as surplus and is made available for reuse across departments. This surplus inventory is currently stored in approximately 4,950 square feet of warehouse space utilizing pallet racking, shelving, and warehouse floor storage, with items stacked up to three tiers high to optimize space. The Sustainability Department oversees the central inventory and supports reuse across County departments to reduce waste and minimize the need for new purchases. In addition to central storage, County departments frequently require assistance with modifying, reinstalling, or decommissioning furniture in office spaces. These services involve accessing and reusing surplus inventory, moving and storing furniture, and in some cases integrating new furniture into existing configurations. Contractors may be called upon to support ergonomic adjustments, seismic safety, repairs, or other modifications during these projects. This RFP seeks to establish one or more agreements with qualified contractors capable of supporting both centralized inventory management and decentralized, ondemand furniture services.
