H. Removal of Existing Roofs 1) Contractor shall sweep the roof. 2) Contractor shall carefully expose, remove, and dispose of the existing roofing material, sheathing, any damaged insulation and wood. Rain gutters and downspouts and roof extrusions, if necessary, will be removed and protected on site. 3) Contractor shall carefully remove the existing roofing material so that no damage occurs to the supporting roof deck, joists, fascia, or any other part of the building. Damage caused by Contractor during the roof removal shall be replaced with like material of equal or better quality at Contractor's expense, which shall include the same section depth, lip width, and gauge thickness of the member damaged. 4) Contractor shall remove and replace any existing damaged underlying materials such as rot/ water-damaged/dry-rotted sheeting, decking, plywood, shiplap, fascia, sheathing, planking, roof supports, or insulation with equivalent or similar materials, ensuring the replacement matches the same section depth, lip width, and gauge thickness of the damaged member. If the new materials are exposed, they shall be primed and painted to match existing building colors. 5) Contractor shall obtain written approval from Caltrans Contract Manager for any work and replacement materials that may be required to repair hidden defects below roofing layer prior to starting such work or installation of the replacement materials. 6) All removed materials shall be legally disposed at a disposal site, at no additional cost to Caltrans.
