1. FIT TESTING Contractor will competently perform annual fit tests for current VTA employees, at the various VTA work locations. Fit testing will be performed at the employees’ assigned VTA location, or at a location specified by the Contractor that is within Santa Clara County a. Contractor will provide, within seven (7) calendar days of a VTA request, fit tests for: i. Any new employees who are required to wear a respirator; ii. Existing employees who change classification and may, as a result of such change, be required to wear a respirator; iii. Supervisors who oversee employees who wear respirators. b. Contractor will provide fit testing for employees who are assigned, or voluntarily choose to use respirators according to the following procedure: i. Fit testing must be performed using the approved methods described in the Cal/OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard 8 CCR §5144. a. Employees must be fit-tested wearing all respirators currently assigned. b. No tight-fitting respirators must be worn or allowed to be fit-tested on any employee whose facial hair comes between the sealing surface of the face piece and the face or who has any other condition which interferes with the respirator’s sealing surface or valve function. c. Contractor must document fit testing and training (as further described below) with a respirator fit testing and training record that will be provided to the appropriate VTA Maintenance Training Department employee (as designated by VTA). 2. TRAINING: a. Contractor will provide annual training in the use of respirators (“Respirator Training”) to every employee who wears a respirator. b. Contractor will provide, within seven (7) calendar days of a request by VTA, respirator training to: i. Any new employee who may be required to wear a respirator; ii. Existing employees who change classification and may, as a result of such change, be required to wear a respirator; iii. Supervisors who oversee employees who wear respirators. The Respirator Training will occur at the employee’s assigned VTA location or at a location designated by the Contractor within Santa Clara County. Training will occur alongside fit testing and will include all the elements contained in the California Code of Regulations, Title 8 Section 5144 Section (K). Below is a list of the training elements: i. Description of the respirators; ii. Necessity for the respirator and how improper fit, usage, or maintenance can compromise the protective effect of the respirator; iii. The intended use, limitations and capabilities of each respirator used; iv.
