Request for Information (RFI): Dog detection services and lizard scat collection
All information submitted in response to this announcement is voluntary. Introduction
The Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to identify qualified vendors capable of providing professional dog detection teams to conduct surveys for scat of three lizard species: Blunt-nosed leopard lizard, western whiptail lizard, and Blainville horned lizard in various locations in the San Joaquin valley.
This RFI is issued under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) for market research purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for proposals or quotes.
Responses should be concise, relevant, and directly address the qualifications and capabilities outlined in this notice. Submissions should avoid general marketing materials unrelated to the specific scope of work described. Responses that fail to address the technical requirements or do not adhere to specified guidelines will not be considered.

Scope of Work Summary
The services sought will support DNA analysis studies by providing:
Provide teams consisting of a detection dog, paired with a handler accompanied by a second handler or person to assist with orientation.
Survey the designated areas for scat of the animal populations of interest.
Geo-reference locations that are positive for detected scat with handheld GPS units
Collect all survey data, including scat waypoints, .gpx and .kmz files, survey jpegs and develop a spreadsheet detailing scat found during surveys and summarizing surveys. Provide these deliverables to USGS within 2 weeks of field work completion.
Collect and package scat samples as outlined in the statement of work attached and deliver or ship samples to the Mammalian Ecology and Conservation Unit, Veterinary Genetics Laboratory, University of California, Davis.

Interested vendors are requested to submit a capability statement that includes the following:
Demonstrated experience with dog detection services, particularly in San Joaquin valley.
Capability to perform dog detection services, including ability to geo-reference locations and collect samples.
Qualifications and experience of dog handlers and other personnel involved in the project.
Description of services, and ability to mobilize out into the field by no later than June 2nd.
UEI number, SAM registration status, and business size under the specified NAICS code.
