Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Davis Civic Arts Commission is seeking an artist or collaborative team to thoughtfully design and create artwork that can be integrated into the existing plans for the Russell Boulevard Green Street Demonstration Project that will surround Davis City Hall at 23 Russell Boulevard. This project aims to showcase the effectiveness and beauty of sustainable landscape design for the community, serving as a green street model. Specifically, artists are asked to propose artwork to adorn the faces of six planned concrete seat cubes, each measuring 2’ by 2’. Artwork should reflect sustainability, greening-related themes, local flora and fauna, history of place, and/or the architectural themes of City Hall. The artist will complete works to be installed either on top of, or in recessed spaces on top of, the faces of six concrete seat cubes. Specific examples of work the Commission may consider include, but are not limited to the following: Mosaic glass, tile, or stone panels Ceramic tile squares Artfully arranged items encased in weather-resistant resin Other media TBD by artist Specifications for Artwork Approximate measurements: There are 6 seat cubes, each measuring 2’x2’x1.5’ tall with five available faces that can be vehicles/pedestals for art. Please refer to landscape design plans for more detailed measurements. Paver area around seat cubes is approximately 450 square feet. Completed artwork should have a smooth surface appropriate for sitting on, and should be void of any sharp surfaces. Only durable materials may be used in the creation of the artwork. Media should be weather-proof for sustained outdoor exposure. Artist must supply their own materials and media for production of proposed artwork. Drop cloths should be used at all times while painting and/or installing art on-site. Design may not include a copyrighted or trademarked image and must be an original created design by the artist or team of artists submitting. Artists are responsible for protecting their work from the elements and possible vandalism by selecting durable, weatherproof media and a design that does not allow for work to be easily removed from seat tops.
