The San Diego Police and Fire-Rescue Departments serve the nation's eighth-largest City, having a population of 1.42 million. Each Department has a comprehensive behavioral wellness program that provides psychological counseling and training programs for sworn and civilian personnel. All current and retired employees, their partners, and their dependents are eligible for psychological services at no charge. The Departments define dependents as anyone living in the employee's home, including all children (under the age of 25). Psychological services include psychological counseling, critical incident debriefing, peer support team clinical oversight, trauma management and intervention, and training and management consultation in psychological services
