he Powell Street Improvement Project is a collaborative initiative aimed at revitalizing a three-block stretch of Powell Street between Market Street and Geary Street in San Francisco. This area, serving as a critical pedestrian corridor and home to the iconic cable car turnaround, has faced challenges such as vacant storefronts and declining foot traffic. This project consists of roadway improvements, sidewalk replacement work, sub-sidewalk basement repairs, sidewalk extensions, lighting installations, and landscaping improvements. Work may involve roadway demolition, site grading, sub-sidewalk basement work, waterproofing, utility relocation work, traffic routing, temporary pedestrian routing, and all related work. The project will place significant emphasis on the selection, detailing, and installation of high-quality materials, particularly for non-standard elements associated with sidewalks, lighting, and site furnishings. There will also be the need for close coordination with MUNI Operations to ensure minimal impacts and shutdown time to ongoing cable car operations and customers. Project will be required to provide adequate traffic routing and phasing plans for vehicles and pedestrians during construction to minimize impacts to traffic and keep businesses open during construction.
