Since it was established in 1962, DPH has provided categorically funded health services focused on public health issues relating to reproductive health, communicable disease, emergency preparedness, maternal and child health, environmental health, and animal control. In 2008, in response to emerging health care issues, the department evaluated the provision of its clinical services and developed a strategic plan to meet the needs of the population of the San Bernardino County. DPH worked to address gaps and increase access to quality, comprehensive health care services by leveraging existing and available resources. Comprehensive pediatric services were assimilated into the DPH Health Centers in 2014 and 2015. Health Centers must provide required primary health services as listed in Section 330(b)(1) of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act which include: • General primary medical care • Diagnostic laboratory • Diagnostic radiology • Screenings • Coverage for emergencies during and after hours • Voluntary family planning (birth control and sexually transmitted infection [STI] prevention) • Immunizations • Medication-assisted treatment • Well child services • Gynecological care • Obstetrical care • Preventative dental services • Pharmaceutical services • Psychiatry • Refugee health assessments • Care coordination • Eligibility assistance • Health education • Outreach • Transportation • Translation
