2.1 The purification robotic platform shall be the following make/model or equivalent and shall at a minimum meet the specifications as follows: 2.1.1 Manufacturer: ThermoFisher Scientific Model: KingFisher Presto Magnetic Particle Processor or equal 2.1.2 Instrument Specifications (features): 2.1.2.1 The dimensions of the magnetic particle processor shall be 360 mm x 465 mm x 400 mm (W x H x D). 2.1.2.2 Capability to perform purification of lysates in conjunction with a Hamilton STAR or equivalent. This shall include the ability to begin with lysates contained in a KingFisher 96-well deep-well plate or similar and end with extracts in 1.5 mL sample tubes. 2.1.2.3 The capability to use magnetic beads, which are moved from well to well, to perform purification. This shall include using KingFisher plastic tip combs, or similar, that match the configuration of KingFisher deep-well plates that cover the magnetic rods used to move magnetic beads. 2.1.2.4 The instrument shall utilize a 2-position turntable that is loaded by an i-Swap arm of a Hamilton STAR robot or similar, to perform nucleic acid purification. 2.1.2.5 The instrument shall have USB, ethernet, and RS-232 communication ports. 2.1.2.6 All necessary components, other than the extended platform enclosure and pedestal, to integrate the particle processor with the DNA robotic platform are required. 2.1.3 Engineering and Services Specifications (features): 2.1.3.1 Method Programming– covers the programming effort to install and verify methods previously validated by the Crime Laboratory. This shall include, at a minimum, a purification method integrated with the ondeck magnetic particle processor (utilizing PrepFiler chemistry), integration/compatibility of the purification method with upstream automated lysis method, quantitation method (utilizing Applied Biosystems Quantifiler™ Trio), and normalization/amplification method (utilizing Promega® PowerPlex Fusion 6C) as well as integration with the Crime Laboratory LIMS, Forensic Advantage. The capability to support future methods which cover the integration of products from a variety of manufacturers (i.e. Applied Biosystems, Promega, Qiagen etc.) is also required. 2.1.3.2 Instrument Installation – including site-based instrument setting verification, volume verification of pipetting devices, and solutions and consumables required for installation.
