A. Service Overview i. A total of 307 New Machines shall be installed and maintained by the contractor across the main campus. The specified quantity may be subject to adjustment based on operational requirements or unforeseen circumstances. a) Washers: Washers shall be Energy Efficient, front loading, front control commercial clothes washers capable and larger capacity machines for custodial operation. 1. Regular Capacity: Minimum 14 LB capacity washers are used in most locations unless otherwise noted. 2. Large Capacity: Minimum 24 LB capacity washers are used in Custodial-use only laundry locations'° b) Dryers: Dryers shall be front control, commercial clothes dryers and have multiple temperature/cycle selections for all types of fabrics and permanent-press clothing. 1. Stacked Dryers: Minimum 14-LB capacity stacked dryers are to be used in some locations. 2. All Dryers shall have magnetic catch doors. ii. This is a non-revenue-generating service and shall operate under a flat monthly service fee. iii. An additional Annual Preventive Maintenance Service for all machines shall be provided, to be conducted between the summer of each year. The maintenance schedule shall be coordinated with the designated UC Merced representative. This service shall not to be included in the Monthly (Rental) Service Fee. B. Preventive Maintenance, Maintenance and Repair i. Preventive Maintenance to include but not be limited to Lint Traps. ii. All machines shall be equipped with drains or lint filters as determined by the UC. C. Special Requirements for South Campus i. South Campus Staff Apartments, encompassing Glacier Point and Sentinel Rock, require ventless dryers due to the absence of dryer ducts in these apartments. D. Machine identifying number: i. Each machine shall prominently display a unique identifying number for use in reporting malfunctions. E. Equipment Replacement and/or Repair: i. Any malfunctioning machine shall be replaced either temporarily or permanently within 48 hours from the report of malfunction (excluding Saturday, Sunday and holidays) if repairs cannot be completed within that time period for any reason. If a machine cannot be repaired immediately, the Supplier is responsible for posting a timed and dated "Out of order" sign on the machine informing laundry users of the expected repair time. F. Operating Instructions: i. Supplier shall post at each laundry room location operating instructions for all laundry equipment, giving washing and drying instructions for the different types of fabrics. This is often the first experience for some patrons in laundering their own clothing. Supplier shall provide common sense, layperson's language instructions on temperature selection and care for fabrics. G. Clothing damage: i. It shall be the responsibility of the Supplier to provide restitution to patrons whose clothing has been damaged due to machine malfunction.
