The UCSC Global Learning office seeks to partner with an organization in the development of a study abroad program based in Madrid, Spain. Led by Professor Catherine Ramirez, the Latin American Spain program will invite students to: - Learn about Latin American-origin peoples beyond the Americas and the relationship between Spain and Latin America, thereby broadening your perspective of the world; - Compare and contrast Spain and the United States as migrant-receiving countries with large and diverse Latin American-origin populations, thereby enriching their understanding of US Latinxs and our place not just in the United States, but in the world; - Hone their reading, writing, speaking, visual analysis, participant observation, and critical thinking skills; - Have the opportunity to speak Spanish (castellano) in everyday settings (e.g., in restaurants and stores, on public transit, etc.). Students who do not speak it will have the opportunity to pick up basic Spanish. Students who already know Spanish will have the opportunity to improve their speaking, listening, and reading skills
