Seismic retrofit, renovation, and expansion of the Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Services Center to modernize the recreation facility, and to reach an Immediate Occupancy structural rating to serve as one of the City of Berkeley’s Care and Shelter facilities. The Work includes the renovation and expansion of the existing single-story wood-framed building core and shell, interior improvements, building code upgrades, and accessibility improvements. The scope includes a seismic retrofit, energy efficiency upgrades, tenant improvements, new MEP systems, new finishes, and the addition of fire alarms and sprinklers. Site improvements include, but are not limited to, grading, drainage, a stormwater catchment area, utilities, paving, accessible ramps and walkways, bicycle parking, an accessible parking stall, concrete curbs and sidewalks, fencing, gates, and tree removal and replacement.
