Specifications include, but are not limited to: Kennel Must: • For South County, kennel needs to be located in San Diego, south of the SR-52 and west of the I-15; for North County, kennel needs to be located in North County, south of the SR-76 and west of the I15. • The prices contained in the contract will be per County of San Diego Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures working dog kenneled at the facility. • Separate healthy dogs from non-healthy dogs by maintaining an area to quarantine non-healthy dogs, and by taking the necessary precautions. Maintain a properly ventilated facility (12-15 air exchanges per hour recommended). • Provide emergency care, or will transport dog to an emergency clinic. • Heat and cool as dictated by climate to maintain 60 - 80°F in the facility year round. • Maintain feeding and medication schedules as directed by the Canine Officer. • Provide in-house grooming service or an area where the Canine Officer can groom the dog. • Private exercise sessions on days when Detector Dog is not working - an average of two days a week and two weeks a year while the handler is on vacation. • Provide 24 hour access. • Provide timely and accurate communication to Canine Officers, San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures, or other Agency personnel regarding the condition of the detector dog. • Comply with training instructions given by to Canine Officers, San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures, or other Agency personnel. • Meet minimum requirements of the Animal Welfare Act for primary residence. • Maintain well-kept grounds free of tall grasses, overgrown shrubbery, and fallen leaves and plant debris. • Provide Runs That: o Are escape proof (i.e. fence on top, secure latch). o Have concrete floors. o Have good drainage, no puddles. o Have a solid, impervious barrier preventing physical contact with other dogs to prevent cross contamination. • Have Good Security That: o Can be accessed only by a key after hours. o Prevents dogs from digging out or jumping or climbing over fences. • Have a Clean and Sanitary Facility That: o Smells and appears clean. o Stores food in a dry, clean place. o Is free of rodent droppings. o Is free of poison baits or toxic material accessible to animals. • Is cleaned and sanitized daily. Sanitizing agents must be approved by the EPA.
