INSERT • Insert shall be made of white, bleached sulphate, milk carton wet strength, solid paperboard (0.024 inch thick (0.6096 mm)) with polyplastic-coating (0.001 inch) on both sides. • The insert shall be a parallelogram shape measuring 6 1/4 inches (15.875 cm) on the long sides, and 3 11/16* inches (9.366 cm) between these parallel sides. The acute angles shall be 70 degrees. See picture below. • One- inch square grids shall be printed on the inner, glued side of the insert. This grid pattern shall start at each of the obtuse angles. See picture below. • An embossed (raised) single scored crease shall be located at the center of the insert, on the unprinted/unglued side, perpendicular to the long axis, to allow a 180 degree fold prior to use. • The result shall be an insert folded so that the gridded, glued side closes on itself. ADHESIVE(GLUE) • Stickem Special™, regular formulation, or equivalent adhesive shall be applied to the gridded surface of the insert. Stikem Special™ is manufactured by: Seabright, 4026 Harlan Street, Emeryville, CA94608, (510) 655-3126. • One and 3/4 grams of Stickem Special™ shall be evenly applied within the gridded area of the insert, leaving an unglued, ¼" buffer on the outer edges. • The two exposed comers of the folded insert shall not have any Stickem Special™ on them. • Any “equivalent” adhesive/glue used should be strong enough that flies will be retained and cannot escape but not trap birds, bats, reptiles or other small animals. QUALITY CONTROL • 5 bundles of 25 inserts will be randomly selected from 5 cartons from each shipment or lot received. 5 inserts (25 total) will be selected from each bundle, identified by lot number and submerged in water for 24 hours to ensure the adhesive does not separate from the paper. If glue separation occurs additional soak tests will be conducted on failed lots and/or inserts will be returned to vendor at no cost to CDFA for replacement. • 25 inserts from the 5 bundles will be identified by lot number and fit tested with the current Jackson trap body in use by CDFA to ensure a proper fit. Inserts should fit snug into the Jackson trap body. Jackson trap inserts that are loose and fall out of the trap body will be rejected and returned to the vendor at no cost to CDFA for replacement.
