Recruit approximately thirty (30) 16- and 17-year-old high school students from diverse populations in San Francisco, to serve as “interns” in a six-week summer training program, each summer, for the term of the grant agreement. Operate the summer program five days per week, Monday through Friday, and provide transportation to and from work sites. Maintain recruitment strategies that target low income, at-risk San Francisco residents with priority placement of referrals from the Opportunities for All, Juvenile Probation, SFSO, SFUSD Alternative schools, SFUSD, and Community Based Organizations. Provide hands on horticultural training and on the job skills development, including use of personal protective equipment, tool identification, cultivation of plants, preparation of soil amendments, vegetation and land management, and basic farming. Develop and submit a detailed training plan for approval by SFSO/SFPUC 45 days prior to the start of the program. All necessary equipment is purchased by the proposer and on-site 10 days before trainees are on-site. Ensure that all staff clearance information for access onto SFSO secure-facility grounds is submitted 14 days prior to the start of the program. Work in collaboration with SFSO and SFPUC to ensure that the summer training program provides law enforcement representatives with the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with the summer interns.
