The City is seeking an experienced, responsible, capable, and professional firm to provide Goat/Sheep Grazing Services. The areas to be grazed each year will be coordinated between the City of Redlands (City) and the Contractor(s) in advance of the grazing season each season. This is contingent on funding and therefore the City cannot guarantee a base amount of acreage under the agreement for each year. 1) Vendor(s) shall provide sheep and/or goats only for grazing of vegetation at the specific grazing sites as coordinated with the City. 2) Vendor(s) shall provide herdsman to attend the herd for the duration of the grazing activities, including overnight. In addition to a herdsman, dogs will be permitted but must not interfere with park operations. 3) Vendor(s) shall be responsible for transporting animals to the grazing areas and shall be responsible for the transportation, trailer, and incidentals of the herdsman. Anything customarily necessary or as requested by the City, based on industry standards, for proper completion of the work shall be furnished and installed even though not contained in this RFP. 4) Vendor(s) shall provide all the necessary vehicles, equipment, and tools to appropriately manage the herd for the duration of grazing activities. Including, but not limited to, portable electric fences. 5) Vendor(s) shall ensure animals are contained in fenced areas; some areas may require portable electrical fence. Animals may be herded from one fenced grazing area to the next without the need for a fence, but this activity shall not interfere with operations on adjacent parcels. 6) Vendor(s) shall maintain all animals in good health and are responsible for assessing the vegetation in areas grazed for any vegetation that may be poisonous to the animals or other unsafe conditions. 7) Vendor(s) shall be responsible for watering and providing watering infrastructure necessary for livestock operations within designated grazing properties. The Project Manager will identify potential known water sources where present but is not responsible for ensuring water for providing a water source for the herd. 8) Vendor(s) shall maintain the grazing area in the same order and condition in which received, ordinary wear and tear excepted. Any unacceptable operations or damage to facilities shall be corrected according to City’s direction and at the Contractor(s) expense. 9) Vendor(s) shall ensure that grazing areas are not overgrazed, and that adequate herbaceous vegetation remains to prevent erosion. 10) Vendor(s) shall be responsible for protecting any native trees or shrubs from damage by grazing activities that the Project Manager has identified needs to be protected. 11) Vendor(s) shall to the extent feasible, mitigate the possibility of introducing new noxious weeds onto any areas grazed. 12) Vendor(s) shall ensure that all areas identified for grazing by the Project Manager are grazed in a timely manner and until all areas are grazed to adequately reduce the risk of fire. Early grazing of the specified areas or other areas may be allowable at no additional cost to the District but must be coordinated and approved by the Project Manager. 13) Vendor(s) shall coordinate with the Project Manager on the expected standards for adequately reducing the risk of fire. Typically, the desire is to ensure that about eighty-five percent (85%) of vegetation up to five (5) feet high is grazed but this can lead to much more grazing of the trees and shrubs than desired. 14) Vendor(s) shall ensure that the annual cost-per acre for grazing includes all tools, equipment, transportation, animals, employees that are required for the grazing services, as no additional compensation will be allowed. 15) City shall determine the areas to be grazed each year and approve the grazing schedule.
