Site Preparation Dense vegetation would be removed along bridge perimeter during site preparation for the placement of any scaffolding or equipment mats required for the deck repairs. Staging Area Preparation Staging areas would be used to store project materials and equipment throughout construction. Staging areas include existing Gentry Road and the New Riverbank areas that may front the project. This will be determined during the design phase. Traffic control, barricades and construction sign plans would be prepared to ensure no public traffic enters this area during construction with a road closure and detour. Bridge Deck Repair As stated, the repair project shall include removal of all unsound concrete down to sound concrete, abrasive blasting of an exposed steel, removal of all traces of rust of corroded steel, reinforcement of corroded steel with new reinforcement steel (i.e. splice new rebar), crack repair, patch removed concrete with high strength structural concrete, and placement of HMW methacrylate over entire deck. Mitigation measures, such as installation of a net system under the bridge, will be taken to prevent debris from falling into the river during bridge deck repairs. All equipment required for bridge deck repair will be staged on and operated from the banks of the New River and/or Gentry Road, within County right-of-way. Road Replacement After bridge deck repairs are complete, the roadway approaches, approximately 50 feet on each side of the bridge, will be repaired/replaced. The road structural section will include aggregate base and asphalt concrete with striping and any signage needed to match existing roadway on each side of the bridge. Additionally, rain-runoff drainage systems are to be installed on all four corners of the bridge. Water Consumption The proposed project would require water for dust control during ground disturbing and earth compaction activities. Water would likely be obtained from a nearby Imperial Irrigation District canal, through the IID encroachment permit process.
