A. CAL FIRE employees who receive training will be able to: 1) Understand the principles of early intervention in high intensity, cumulative stress, or crisis situations. 2) Understand the framework of the SFA model. 3) Determine who may need Stress First Aid actions in themselves, peers/subordinates, and those served by CAL FIRE employees. 4) Make simple, focused interventions based on their assessment. 5) Understand when a referral for more intensive evidenced-based treatment is necessary. B. The material covered in the SFA Workshop shall include: 1) Check: assess and reassess. 2) Coordinate: inform others and refer for additional care, as needed. 3) Cover: get to safety and keep safe. 4) Calm: reduce physiological and emotional arousal. 5) Connect: ensure or restore social support from peers and family. 6) Competence: restore self-efficacy and occupational and social competence. 7) Confidence: restore self-esteem and hope.
