The scope includes the following components: 1. Initial Cancer Screening • Conduct comprehensive cancer screenings for all participating personnel at the beginning of the performance period. • Screenings must detect a broad range of occupationally related cancers common to firefighters (e.g., skin, prostate, colon, testicular, lung, bladder, kidney, thyroid cancers, etc.). • Provide testing at the department’s facilities (on-site) and offer an alternative off-site location for those who are unavailable during on-site dates. • Ensure minimal disruption to daily operations and shift schedules through flexible scheduling. 2. Follow-Up Cancer Screening • Provide a second full screening for all participants 24 months after the initial round, following the same delivery model (on-site and off-site availability). • Ensure continuity of care and provide comparative results to evaluate any changes or emerging concerns. 3. Compliance and Standards • All screenings and medical evaluations must meet or exceed the guidelines set forth in NFPA 1582: Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments. • Medical personnel conducting screenings must be licensed and trained in occupational health and cancer detection.
