Project scope of work consists of widening the existing sidewalk (4 ft) along the east side of Salt Lake Avenue to allow pedestrian activity on the Salt Lake Corridor of the City's jurisdiction while meeting ADA requirements. The project focuses on providing pedestrian access to the Gateway Line Extension, formerly known as the West Santa Ana Branch Project (GATEWAY LINE), upcoming stations to be located just north and south of Cudahy City limits. The proposed project will connect both stations via new concrete sidewalk. The project entails the removal and reconstruction of the existing narrow (non-ADA compliant, not pedestrian accessible) sidewalk, the removal and reconstruction of wheelchair ramps, addition of medium to large curb extensions to reduce pedestrian crossing distance while improving the crossing angle at existing skewed intersections along Salt Lake Avenue corridor, and adding pedestrian crosswalks at intersections to increase safety for pedestrians while providing pedestrian access to future Gateway Line stations. In addition, the project includes the installation of pedestrian lighting, wayfinding signage, traffic striping, installation of benches for pedestrians to rest near green areas, planting new trees to create shade, and canopies for pedestrians.
