Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software is mission critical for all of DPR mapping, field data collection, data analysis, and information sharing needs. Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software and data systems are the industry standard. For over a decade, DPR has used the ESRI GIS platform for its cartographic needs and in that time has built a substantial data library. This geographic data is built into a wide variety of applications, maps, informational dashboards, and visualization tools, and allows data sharing and informational communication both within DPR, and with partners and the public. It affects all aspects of the DPR mission, and in particular, cultural resources tracking and preservation, facilities, roads and trails, boundaries, natural resource information, and is critical for fire and other emergency response, and law enforcement activities and public safety.
