The Los Angeles Unified School District Multilingual Multicultural Education Department (MMED) will develop biliteracy planners for all non-Spanish Dual Language Education (DLE) target languages (Arabic, Armenian, French, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin) in alignment with Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)/Caminos’ biliteracy planner already in place. This will create the foundation for subsequent professional development opportunities where DLE teachers and staff will have the opportunity to plan for biliteracy, specific to their target language of instruction. The development of biliteracy planners will strengthen non-Spanish DLE programs and practices for multilingual multicultural students in all educational settings in alignment with our Strategic Plan. The contractor shall exhibit recent experience and expertise in developing and implementing successful biliteracy-based instruction with a deep knowledge of how to differentiate instruction for all target languages. The contractor will collaborate with MMED and DLE staff to: Year 1 1. Conduct a virtual 3-part speaker series for Dual Language Education and World Languages and Cultures (WLC) teachers; 2. Design and develop two (2) model biliteracy planners (primary and upper elementary), one (1) lesson planning template for DLE non-Spanish programs, and cross-linguistic lesson samples; 3. Produce several intermittent drafts of the revised biliteracy planner, lesson template and sample lessons for feedback from the MMED DLE team; 4. Facilitate a 4-part series Professional Development (PD) that reflects the intent of the biliteracy planner; 5. Provide ongoing feedback to teacher-designed biliteracy plans and cross-linguistic lessons; 6. Facilitate PDs that reflect the intent of the biliteracy planner for principals and Multilingual Multicultural Academic Language Coaches (MMALC); 7. Facilitate PD for Armenian DLE teachers, providing them opportunities to plan for crosslinguistic transfer; 8. Prepare and submit the final requested translated documents in Armenian; 9. Prepare and submit the final requested translated curricular subject units for Math grades K and 1st.
