Due to recent federal and state policy changes, County Health is facing significant uncertainty. While many details are still unclear about how the policy changes enacted at the federal and state levels will roll out over the next several years, we know that these changes will: reduce the number of people covered by Medi-Cal, increase the number of people who are uninsured, decrease funding for the healthcare safety net, and disproportionately impact people with unsatisfactory immigration status (UIS). Based on the information currently available, over the next few years the federal and state reductions together will mean between 36,200 to 53,700 or 21-31% of San Mateo County residents currently on Medi-Cal could lose their Medi-Cal coverage and San Mateo County Health could experience substantial financial losses. As a result of these looming fiscal and policy changes, County Health is seeking assistance in evaluating the operating efficiency of its organizational structure to assess its readiness to meet these unprecedented challenges.
