Specifications include, but are not limited to:The City of Berkeley Solid Waste Management Center and Transfer Station (Transfer Station) is located at 1201 2nd Street in Berkeley CA. The facility is open to the public Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on selected holidays. Each year, the Transfer Station receives approximately 110,000 tons of refuse, compostable (green waste including yard clippings and commercial food waste) and construction and demolition materials. Of the total incoming tons, approximately 30,000 annual tons of construction and demolition material is received from debris box services and private customers who self-haul to the facility. Construction and Demolition Materials (C&D) received by the Transfer Station must be sent to other facilities for further processing, sorting and/or separation. The C&D materials that will require further segregation at the selected vendor’s location will include, but not limited to: drywall; painted and unpainted wood; engineered wood; roofing materials; metals; cardboard; dirt; brick; rock and various aggregates; concrete, rigid plastics, etc. In addition, individuals responding to this RFP may propose additional materials for further processing, sorting and/or separation in their proposal, such as carpet, carpet padding, and furniture. C&D materials are separated and processed at the Transfer Station, as follows: 1. Upon entrance to the Transfer Station yard, the content of each customer’s load will be identified by weighmasters at the scale-house. 2. Loads that consist primarily of C&D materials are directed to a dedicated area of the Transfer Station indoor Tipping Floor. 3. Workers on the Tipping Floor: a. Direct C&D materials to the designated area, b. May further identify materials from other loads that may be separated from refuse and moved to the C&D area, c. May identify and remove unsuitable materials from the C&D pile. The Transfer Station has segregated tipping floor areas for inbound materials, including compostable, electronics, metals, appliances, mattresses, and concrete. The City also contracts with an on-site salvage contractor that collects reusable items for resale at its Berkeley store. II. SCOPE OF SERVICES a. Contractor will accept all C&D materials delivered by the City of Berkeley in walking floor trailers to the contractor’s location. Contractor will accept delivery of C&D materials during their permitted hours of operation. All C&D tonnage collected at the City of Berkeley Transfer Station will be delivered to selected contractors C&D material recovery facility in walking floor trailers. Typically four to six (4-6) loads per day, with each load weighing approximately 18-20 tons each. b. The City of Berkeley is requesting that the contractor also provide a proposal option for the transport of C&D materials from the City of Berkeley Transfer Station to their permitted C&D material recovery facility as a separate price per ton. With this option, the contractor must be available to pick up material from the City of Berkeley Transfer Station from 4 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday excepting the following holidays: Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Christmas, New Years’ Day and Memorial Day
