Climate change impacts on the statewide State Highway System and interregional transportation networks statewide will increase in frequency and severity in the coming years and decades. Caltrans is tracking new climate change funding and a key step to developing projects with new funding to high need locations is to conduct technical studies, adaptation planning studies, or feasibility studies. Due to limited resources, Caltrans cannot initiate and fund these kinds of complex and costly studies at every high-need location statewide. In light of this emergent need and complex challenge, this contract will create a resource Caltrans District practitioners can utilize to: 1) Provide a resource to District practitioners looking to assess adaptation options at the project and corridor scale in the absence of an adaptation planning study, technical study, or feasibility study; and 2) Will provide resources to practitioners and a defined process to follow, towards identifying appropriate, context-specific climate change adaptation design strategies to be considered in future project development phases
