A court reporter and/or stenographer is needed to transcribe spoken and/or recorded speech into written form using machine shorthand or voice writing equipment for DACC administrative hearings and performance management (internal discipline cases) interviews. The court reporter/stenographer must be able to attend one or more hearings per day, lasting throughout business hours (8:00am - 5:00pm), often on short notice (a minimum of 24 hours). Some of these hearings are statutorily required to be held within 48 hours of the pet owner's request and may often be held the next day to meet these legal requirements. The court reporter/stenographer must be flexible with scheduling and location, which can change with less than 24 hours' notice. No cancellation fees will be assessed when a case is settled or cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. Most commonly, the hearings are held at our Long Beach office located at 5898 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90805. However, they may also be held anywhere within Los Angeles County as DACC operates facilities in Agoura Hills, Baldwin Park, Carson, Castaic, Downey, Lancaster, and Palmdale. On rare occasions, a hearing may be held at a location without electricity and/or two hearings may be held simultaneously at different locations. Occasionally, hearings may be conducted virtually, requiring the court reporter/stenographer to have access to Microsoft Teams. Performance management interviews may be conducted virtually or at a Department facility. The court reporter/stenographer duties include transcribing the live or previously recorded proceedings, providing transcripts to DACC personnel, and accepting exhibits into evidence. This may include transcripts captured in person at hearings or video recordings captured via virtual hearings (e.g., through Microsoft Teams).
