Contractor shall provide carcass disposal services to the County of San Diego (County) Public Health Laboratory (PHL). The County PHL works in conjunction with public health clinics, local hospitals and healthcare providers, and the County of San Diego Departments of Epidemiology and Environmental Health and Quality. Additionally, the PHL, under the California Code of Regulations Title 17, §2606 (b)(4), is the approved laboratory in the County mandated to obtain and examine adequate specimens from any rabid animal, clinically suspected rabid animal or biting animal that dies or has been killed. The PHL obtains brain extraction from animal carcasses for the purpose of testing for rabies, which generates a need for carcass disposal for specimens confirmed rabies negative.
