Typical duties for staff include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Building Inspector • Inspect commercial buildings for code compliance, including OSHPD • Inspect residential and remodel projects for code compliance • Meet with and answer questions from architects, contractors and the public at both the permit counter and in the field 2. Plans Examiner • Review commercial and mixed-use projects for conformance with applicable codes • Review residential, remodel, additions, ADUs, photovoltaic systems and other similarly scaled projects for conformance with applicable codes • Perform back checks to verify satisfactory compliance with requested revisions • Return phone calls and emails regarding plan checks and technical questions • When in the office, answer technical questions at the permit counter 3. Permit Technician/Administrative Assistant • Collect and route plans electronically for review by building and other departments • Issue building (including plumbing, mechanical, electrical and misc.) and encroachment permits • Learn and utilize City software for tracking and documenting permits and inspections • Provide counter service, document questions and coordinate responses • Answer phones • Prepare documents and reports including notices, violations and letters
