As part of a comprehensive effort to address an urgent student housing crisis and the challenges it creates for the campus and its urban neighbors, the University of California, Berkeley is constructing the Bancroft Fulton Student Housing Project at 2200 Bancroft Way on the south side of Bancroft Way at its intersection with Fulton Street. The surrounding area consists of Bancroft Way to the north, UC Berkeley’s Legends Aquatic Center to the east, Durant Avenue to the south, and Fulton Street to the west. The program area will be approximately 350,000 gross square feet with construction of a 23-story residence hall, which will accommodate up to 1,625 beds, including first-year undergraduate students, Resident Assistants, the families of five staff members, and include a 500-seat dining hall. Construction cost is estimated at $310 million. The project has completed 100% Construction Documents. The project will be delivered via a CM at Risk with a GMP, with Clark Construction as the CM/Contractor. Construction is anticipated to start in January 2026 with overall completion planned for Summer 2028. The project is required to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDTM) Gold Certification. The project will also strive for LEED Platinum.
