Specifications include, but are not limited to: turnkey broadband connectivity solution for its new fleet of EMUs. The connectivity will serve as a foundation for monitoring key train systems as well as provide passenger amenities such as public WiFi. Beyond simply providing connectivity, a key outcome is to provide a best-in-class passenger experience as it relates to speed, latency, and ease of connectivity. To assist Caltrain achieve these goals, Caltrain has developed the following objectives as it relates to train connectivity: • Contract with an experienced technology solution provider and integrator to successfully deliver the requirements outlined in this RFP • Minimize alterations and cost to the EMU to deploy the solution(s) required to meet RFP objectives. Currently, the EMUs are being built with external cellular antennas on the pantograph cars. Proposers will be required to independently validate the information regarding the EMUs when the trains are delivered to the Agency at San Jose The EMU delivery is scheduled for early 2022 to early 2023 but the schedule may change and the Proposer needs to be flexible with the accessibility of the EMU for installation.
