The purpose of the Project is to reduce mental health disparities by fostering a stronger, more trusting connection between LACDMH and the Black and African heritage communities of Los Angeles County (Black/African American, Afro-Caribbean, AfroLatino, and continental African peoples). By strategically hosting events and collaborating with established community partners, we aim to meet community members in familiar, trusted spaces such as where they live, work, and worship. Furthermore, the Project aims to promote mental health services, reduce stigma, and increase the capacity of the public mental health system in Los Angeles County. It will enable this often-underserved population to access mental health services and empower other community members to do the same.
