We are seeking a Design-Build team to expand the Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) by approximately 16,000 GSF into the adjacent P8 parking lot. This project aims to meet the growing recreation, fitness, and wellness needs of SDSU students, particularly as the University's enrollment—and specifically its on-campus residential population—continues to rise. The current 134,000-square-foot ARC serves a student body of roughly 38,500 and is increasingly challenged by overcrowding and long wait times for equipment and group fitness classes. The expansion will allow for new and enhanced programming, benefiting both SDSU students and the broader campus community. Beyond meeting physical wellness needs, the enhanced facility will support student engagement, retention, and success; contribute to the overall residential experience; and align with the University’s mission and values. To accommodate the loss of parking, a new lot with 22 ADA-compliant spaces and 6 standard stalls will be constructed across the street on 55th located outside the University Police Department. The cost of this new parking lot will need to be incorporated into the overall project budget.
