A Consultant will be contracted to develop and implement a mental health capacity building project targeting Afghan refugee adults residing in Los Angeles County by providing culturally and linguistically competent mental health educational seminars and support groups, two (2) times (X) a month, for a total of 11 months. The mental health educational seminars & support groups will be two (2) hours in duration. There will be one (1) hour of mental health educational seminars, followed by one (1) hour of support groups, where participants can share their life issues and feelings and receive support. There can be 2 virtual seminars & support groups. Each mental health educational seminar and support group will include 20 to 30 unique participants. The objective of this project is to increase awareness and knowledge of mental illness signs and symptoms, as well as improved access to mental health services for the Afghan refugees. There are more than 15,000 Afghan refugees in California and this number keeps moving upwards. Of these, roughly 4,000 to 5,000 are settling in Los Angeles County. Monthly workshops will be conducted in Service Areas where a high concentration of the Afghan refugee community members reside within LA County.
