Description

Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Contractor shall furnish all necessary materials, labor, equipment, and incidentals, including glue for tarp sections. Arkansas Department of Agriculture will be responsible for tarp removal and disposal. B. Contractor shall adhere to Arkansas Department of Agriculture and Forestry Division guidelines and procedures regarding soil fumigation application, including but not limited to the following: 1. Fumigant must be Methyl Bromide 80%, Chloropicrin 20%. 2. Application Rate Per Acre must be three-hundred-and-seventy-five (375) pounds per acre. 3. Fumigant’s label must comply with Figure 1: Hazard Rating Systems below. Figure 1: Hazard Rating Systems Category NFPA 704 NPCA-HMIS Health 4 4 Flammability 1 1 Reactivity 3 3 NFPA 704 — National Fire Protection Association 704 — (National Fire Code Standard No. 704) NPCA — National Paint Coatings Association HMIS — Hazardous Material Information System Hazard Key: 4 – Severe, 3 – Serious, 2 – Moderate, 1 – Slight, 0 – Minimal 4. Contractor shall use Total Impermeable Film (TIF) tarp. 5. Contractor shall use soil injection at nine (9) inches with continuous tarp coverage as the method of application. 6. The Soil temperature must be a minimum of fifty-five (55) degrees Fahrenheit. 7. Soil moisture must be equal to or greater than 50% and less than 75% for shank applications at ten (10) inches below the surface. Contractor shall determine soil moisture using one of the following methods: a. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Feel and Appearance Method. The USDA Feel and Appearance Method for estimating soil moisture is the preferred method for Baucum Nursery’s moderately coarse textured soils (sandy loam and fine sandy loam). The soil is moist enough (50% to 75% available water capacity) to form a ball with defined finger marks, with very light soil/water staining on fingers, darkened color will not stick. b. A tensiometer.
