Protection: The Contractor shall preserve, in operating condition, active utilities traversing the project site and shall protect property, including, but not limited to, valve boxes, poles, guys, and other appurtenances. The Contractor shall, to the satisfaction of the utility concerned, repair any damage to any such utility, which is due to work under this contract. EXTERIOR OF STRUCTURES Roofs: All defects in the roofing, to include the decking and rafters, shall be repaired in a manner that is satisfactory with the building safety division. All material used shall match existing materials in texture and color. Exterior Walls and Surfaces: All foundation walls, structural members, exterior walls, and siding should be repaired to eliminate all holes, breaks, and loose or rotting materials. Surfaces should be made weatherproof. Exterior wood surfaces, other than decay-resistant woods, should be painted to protect it from decay. Peeling, flaking, and chipped paint should be eliminated and the surfaces repainted. Siding and masonry joints should be made weather and water resistant. Metal surfaces should have all rust and oxidation removed and be repainted. All surfaces should be painted to match existing materials. Stairways, Decks, and Porches: All stairways, decks, and porches should be free from holes, breaks, and loose or rotting materials and be made structurally sound and have proper anchorage. Windows and Doors: All windows and doors should be preserved and shall be secured against the elements and/or unauthorized entry. Whenever practical, damaged, or missing windows and doors shall be repaired or replaced. Replacement windows and doors shall match existing windows and doors in design and color.
