Resilient Springdale – CPRG Projects implementation consists of four projects: Spring Creek at Thunder Chicken The Floodplain Restoration and Conservation Project focuses on restoring 25 acres of floodplain and 11 additional acres of riparian areas to enhance water quality features and reduce flooding in an area impacted by high erosion and old drying beds from a former wastewater treatment plant. The project will also strategically restore the streambank along 3,855 linear feet, helping to stabilize the creek and prevent further erosion. Restoration efforts will also include the removal of invasive species, sediment removal from the creek, and the establishment of a native prairie to support biodiversity and ecosystem health, and planting 654 trees. Carbon Sequestration Goal: approximately 2,338 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (MTCO2e) between 2025 and 2030. Willie George Park Wetland Restoration & Trail Construction The Willie George Park Wetland Restoration & Trail Construction project is designed to address significant issues related to downstream flooding and reducing property loss in the surrounding area due to erosion. The project will restore 34-acres of wetlands and floodplain to stabilize and mitigate erosion, with a goal of controlling stormwater flows. The project should reduce the risk of flooding in properties downstream while also improving water quality in Clear Creek, which is listed on the 303d list. The project will need the design and construction of nearly 600 linear feet of boardwalk and trail through the wetland, offering public access to the restored area and connecting Willie George Park to a nearby subdivision. Carbon Sequestration Goal: approximately 2,443 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (MTCO2e) between 2025 and 2030. Spring Creek at the Greenway The Spring Creek Greenway Forest, Stream, and Riparian Restoration and Preservation project focuses on critical restoration and conservation efforts for sections of Spring Creek alongside the Razorback Greenway Trail. The section of Spring Creek between Huntsville Road and Sanders Avenue has been identified for urgent restoration due to ongoing erosion and structural degradation. Streambank restoration is crucial not only for the preservation of the creek but also to ensure the long-term stability of the Razorback Greenway Trail, which runs parallel to the creek.
