Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Lawn Care: a. Mowing - Lawns shall be mowed during the growing season to maintain a pleasing, neat appearance. This will probably be at a once-a-week schedule and shall not need to be done more frequently than once a week. Pick up trash (rocks, sticks, etc.) and mow at a height of I 1/2" - 2" from green-up in spring to September 15 and 2 l /2" after that date to onset of turf dormancy. The area between Cherry and Main Streets be kept at 2 ½" yearround. Do not cut more than l /3 of grass blade length at any one mowing. Immediately remove clippings after mowing and trimming. Clippings shall be removed from sidewalks and paved parking areas after each mowing by blower or sweeping. Wooded area shall be trimmed with a string trimmer about once a month to achieve a neat appearance of under growth.; b. Fertilization - Lawns shall be fertilized each growing season to maintain a consistent, dark green appearance by following the guidelines described in the attached schedule.; C. Weed Control - Lawns shall be kept attractive and relatively free of unwanted broadleaf weeds and grasses. Hand removal and/or approved chemical control treatments are acceptable as identified in the guidelines described on the attached schedule. All herbicide usage shall be in strict adherence to safe procedures and Federal, State and Local regulations. Herbicides shall only be applied by persons (or under the direct supervision of persons) licensed by the Arkansas State Plant Board as a pest control operator "Ornamentals, Tree and Turf." The name of the applicator and his/her Arkansas license number shall be furnished to the Director before any herbicides are brought to the site; 2. Shrub, Shrub Bed and Tree Care: Pruning - Shrubs and trees shall be pruned annually to enhance the natural form of the plant material, to remove ungainly or wild growth or to remove growth that interferes with walkways, drives or is deemed a safety hazard. Severe pruning or "hedging" will not be permitted unless the plant material was intended to have a more formal appearance. Otherwise, pruning shall consist of removing growth in a way to achieve a natural, random form. The Director or his/her consultant shall make decisions for such pruning. Shade trees shall be pruned only to correct damage or injury and to establish a canopy height of 6' above the ground for shade trees in groundcover areas and at 8' above the ground in turf areas. Also, trees shall be pruned internally to expose the branching pattern of the tree and to encourage the movement of air through the canopy.; a. Fertilization - Shrub plantings shall be fertilized in the spring to encourage moderate growth and a healthy, vigorous appearance and shall be achieved by following the guidelines described in the attached schedule.; b. Weed Control - Shrub beds shall be kept attractive and relatively free of unwanted broadleaf weeds and grasses. Mechanical and/or hand removal treatments are acceptable as well as approved chemical control measures as identified in the guidelines described on the attached schedule.; c. Insect and Disease Control (Additional Service) - Shrub and trees shall be treated for insect and disease control as needed. Identify the source of the problem, prepare an estimate of cost and acquire authorization to proceed from the Director prior to beginning work.; 3. Groundcover Maintenance a. Pruning - Groundcover areas of liriope and vinca shall be pruned annually in the early spring to encourage rapid spreading, to control height and to camouflage winter fatigue and freeze damage.; b. Fertilization - Groundcover areas shall be fertilized in the spring to encourage moderate growth and a healthy, vigorous appearance and shall be achieved by following the guidelines described in the attached schedule.; c. Weed Control -Areas of groundcover massings shall be kept attractive and relatively free of unwanted broadleaf weeds and grasses. Mechanical and/or hand removal treatments are acceptable as well as approved chemical control measures as identified on the guidelines described in the attached schedule.
