Experience Requirements For a person to be able to convert a hard copy textbook into Braille, they must already have experience in how to read and understand Braille and possess extensive knowledge in how to convert text to Braille, have extensive knowledge in how to use a Braille Embosser and extensive knowledge in how to create textile graphics using either a Braille or thermal embosser. For students who are low vision, enlarged font textbooks (up to 20- point font only) provide equal access to traditional smaller font hard copy textbooks that cannot be printed on a traditional copier. OARS Numbers and Additional Position Duties: 24 students are listed in the myOARS database as blind or lowvision and 14 of those students’ requested accommodations for the Spring 2025 semester. Our Blind and Low-Vision Vendor not only meets with faculty to discuss how to provide general print materials (i.e. handouts, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles not already available through library databases, etc.) but also provides guidance to our Blind and Low-Vision Student Assistant who takes notes in classes and is also a lab assistant.
