Specifications include, but are not limited to: Windgate Hall is envisioned as a ground-breaking opportunity for collaboration across Arkansas State University colleges toward the goals of infusing art into a wide range of other academic disciplines. The goal of the Windgate Hall of Art and Innovation is to create new curriculum that fuses together art, science, design and innovation. Windgate Hall will open collaborations between art and engineering, art and science, art and business, art and computer programming, art and a wide range of disciplines. This building will be a key part of establishing the Art and Innovation District. Among the features envisioned for the district are numerous Art Walks and outdoor art display areas which will tie into the existing campus-wide bicycle and pedestrian master plan. A new outdoor performance amphitheater will serve multiple functions from large outdoor classroom to concert venue to open collaboration space. The site selected for the new building is in the southeast quadrant of the campus academic core. It is located directly south of the existing Fine Arts Complex and west of Lab Sciences East and West which house the College of Engineering and Computer Science, sitting at the crossroads of two primary campus core pedestrian corridors. As the anchor for the new Art and Innovation District it will house classroom, studio, and lab spaces for departments within the Fine Arts program and the College of Engineering and Computer Science, with a focus on collaborative interaction between these disciplines.
